Aside of being a menace, mosquitos are also linked to many diseases. Most of us use chemical insecticides to kill them, which are harmful to the environment as well as ourselves. There are many natural ways to keep them away from you and your home.
Lemon and eucalyptus oil: A mixture of these two oils is extremely effective in repelling mosquitos. Mix in equal proportions and apply directly to your skin without any side effects.
Neem oil: Mix neem oil with equal parts coconut oil for a potent repellant for up to 8 hours.
Camphor: Burn pieces of camphor in a closed room, place camphor tablets in corners of a room or place lightly crushed tablets in wide mouthed glass bowls filled with water in corners. This compound has been proven to repel mosquitos the longest compared to other natural products.
Garlic: Known for repelling a number of pests, you can boil crushed garlic and place it in a spray bottle to use around the house. It can be a skin irritant so avoid direct contact.
Tea tree oil: In addition to being a powerful antibacterial agent, it’s also an active repellant. Rub directly on skin or use in a room vaporizer.
Tulsi: Plant a Tulsi shrub near your windows to kill mosquito larvae.
Lavendar: This home remedy also smells good so it acts as a natural room freshener. Apply directly to skin for best results.
Mint: Mint oil and extract used in a vaporizer or applied directly to the body is effective. You can also mix mint flavored mouthwash with water and spray around your home.
Citronella: Burn citronella candles or use in a vaporizer to remain mosquito free.
Catnip: Recent research has revealed that catnips is 10 times more effective than DEET.
